The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Sr. Wetlands Scientist in our Boston office.
Applies diversified knowledge and advanced scientific principles, theories, concepts and techniques of geology, hydrology, chemistry, biology or other related sciences to lead all phases of a project including planning, investigation, and recommendations.
Supervises staff in the collection and analyzing of data obtained at the proposed project site.
Examines and evaluates present and potential scientific conditions as they relate to the planning, design, and construction of projects.
Supervises the preparation of reports, graphs, and diagrams on scientific aspects relating to specific projects.
Provides technical support to project managers as situations arise during the construction of project that require scientific assistance.
Performs on the job review of work being accomplished to ensure the details of construction are in compliance with design criteria and scientific specifications and determines the necessity for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs.
Prioritizes, participates in marketing aspects and schedules new and on-going projects.
Prepares permits for public and private clients with respect to acquisition and compliance for wetland impacts, bridge construction, threatened/endangered species.
Assists in organizing, preparation of public meetings.
Attends various meetings with clients, other engineering firms and staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related field
10 years related experience
8 years related experience (with Master's degree in Natural Sciences)
Highly experienced wetlands scientist
Ability to oversee wetland delineations and functions and values assessments
Experienced in design and monitoring wetland and stream mitigation
Experienced in collaborating and coordinating with state and federal agencies such as Army Corps of Engineers, US Coast Guard, US Fish and Wildlife, NOAA, MassDEP, Federal Highway Administration, MA Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and others
Ability to oversee the environmental permitting process for large, complex transportation projects
Experience with the MA WPA Variance process
Strong leadership capabilities
Interest in addressing climate change resiliency and adaptation for transportation assets
Desire to mentor less-experienced staff
Growth and success oriented
General Work Conditions
Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
