Ecologist

POWER Engineers’ Environmental Division provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment and corrective action services to clients worldwide. Across multiple industries, our diverse staff specialize in the areas of air, water, waste, ecological and cultural resources throughout our 45 offices located across the country and internationally.

We are seeking a staff Ecologist working out of the Austin or Houston, Texas offices in support of our Environmental Division.  The selected candidate would join a team of more than 230 environmental professionals across the U.S.   

Roles and responsibilities 

The candidate must have the ability to perform field surveys, conduct water of the U.S. studies, as well as the ability to perform/lead other ecological field surveys (e.g. threatened and endangered species assessments, vegetation mapping, etc.).  The person in this position needs to be detail-oriented, have demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team, effective communication, and technical writing skills.  The successful candidate may also support project management, and proposal and scope of work development.

As a staff Ecologist you will support and help lead project efforts focused on oil and gas pipelines, transmission lines, renewable energy, environmental surveys, NEPA analyses, and permitting services.  The candidate should have an established and successful work history of executing project safety protocols, providing quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables.

Education/Experience Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or other related field
  • Three (3) to six (6) years’ prior environmental consulting work, ideally with linear corridor projects and/or energy infrastructure related projects e.g., pipelines, electric transmission, power generation facilities, terminals, etc.
  • Demonstrated project experience conducting water of the U.S. including wetland delineations, threatened and endangered (T&E) species assessments, and other evaluations related to natural resources
  • Ability to perform data analysis and develop technical reports.
  • Hands on experience with Section 404 permitting, including agency correspondence, Nationwide Permits, Regional Permits and/or Individual Permits
  • Knowledge of Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the region with potential travel throughout the U.S.

Specialty Experience / Certifications

  • USFWS permit holder for federally-listed species
  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise. CWB, PWS, or other professional designation preferred
  • Stormwater and/or Section 401 Water Quality consulting experience is a plus 
  • Experience working with multi-discipline project teams (e.g., cultural resources) is a plus
