About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts. 

Position overview

The Sr. Forest Silviculturist will work with artificial reforestation of understocked acres, Silviculture of existing plantations and the protection from insects, disease, wildfire and rodents.  The selected candidate will have working knowledge of forest mensuration, site preparation, prescribed fire, commercial and pre-commercial thinning, pruning, tree improvement, seed collection and processing and record keeping are some of the skills necessary to this position.

You will act as Safety Coordinator for all nursery operation and equipment.  Records/reports, staff training, facilities inspections, safety supply procurement and safety compliance are some of the duties. Accomplishes a variety of other duties in the maintenance, security and protection of the forest resource in accordance with the SCE Forest Land Management Plan. Represents SCE Forestry to the public through Edison tours, educational presentations, and interagency meeting surrounding natural resource protection and cooperation. Agency interface: CDF, USFS, CDF&G, Sheriff's Dept., CHP, Cal Trans, Fresno County and BLM. 

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Planning, operation, maintenance and yield of the Auberry and Ely Meadow nurseries.
  • Seed stratification, seed sowing, water and nutrient balance, nursery disease management, seedling propagation for desired physiological characteristics and seedling packaging and storage. 
  • Maintain and procure equipment necessary for the forestry operation. 
  • Responsible for forestry staff training in the proper, safe use of equipment. 
  • Maintains records and equipment inventories


Minimum qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in related science discipline
  • Must have five years’ experience within natural resource management 

Desired qualifications

  • Environmental background in Botany
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science
  • Five years’ experience managing contractors
  • Environmental background in Flora and Fauna of Sierra Nevada
  • RPF (Registered Professional Forester) license
  • Qualified applicators license
  • Working knowledge of forest mensuration
  • 3 years of prescribed burning or firefighting experience
