Job Description

Summary

The person in this position will work on environmental consulting projects to support a fast-paced industrial client base. The work requires strong problem-solving ability and communication skills as well as the ability to develop solutions to meet client objectives for regulatory requirements. Projects may include providing on-site staffing assistance, completing air quality permitting, providing environmental compliance assistance, conducting regulatory and technical analysis, and writing reports. Responsibilities may include preparation of emission inventories, chemical mass balances, permit applications, and technical and economic feasibility studies for pollution control equipment and processes. The work may require out-of-town assignments in the field, at a client facility, or at another Barr office.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in chemical engineering
  • Strong aptitude for understanding industrial processes
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill commitments on time and to do whatever it takes to meet clients’ needs
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Effectiveness in building working relationships and working in multi-disciplined project teams
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Self-initiative and motivation, with an emphasis on client service and growing a career in environmental consulting
  • Willingness to work at local client sites up to 80% of the time
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more relevant internships
  • Experience working with regulations and environmental permitting
  • Engineering knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as oil and gas production, petroleum refining, mining, minerals processing, or chemical production
  • High level of proficiency working with Excel spreadsheets and data systems
  • Project or task management skills
  • Aptitude for developing client relationships and business
