THE POSITION

Do you like working outdoors? Are you passionate about sharing your knowledge of the environment with the public? An Environmental Education Specialist position at Oil Creek State Park could give you the opportunity to make an important contribution to the environmental interpretive programs and presentations at the Oil Creek Pennsylvania State Park.

  • Seasonal full-time employment
  • Work hours vary; 37.5 hours/week; 7 day a week operation.  Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts as required.
  • This position requires wearing a prescribed uniform
  • Must be willing to travel, if necessary

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Working as an Environmental Education Specialist at Oil Creek State Park involves planning, preparing, implementing, presenting, and evaluating environmental interpretive programs. Program themes will include natural history, historic and cultural events, and environmental issues. These programs may be presented to school groups, youth groups, senior citizens, challenged individuals, and the general public. The Environmental Education Specialist position facilitates learning by engaging groups in both the classroom and in the field. Other work includes the preparation of correspondence, program schedules, and media releases, as well as the coordination of events with other local groups.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Must meet PA residency requirement
  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:   A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Condition of Employment:  Willingness to work weekends and evenings.  Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions
