The Department of Environmental Quality is looking for an Environmental Engineer to work in the Minor NSR Section in the Division of Air Quality. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series. 

Principle Duties
As the Environmental Engineer(Minor NSR Permit Engineer) you will typically:

  • Write permits for minor sources of air pollution.
  • Review permit applications, including emission calculations.
  • Assist sources and the public with questions.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this position will possess:

  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer services skills.
  • The ability to read, understand and implement federal and state environmental rules and regulations as they pertain the the Clean Air Act.
  • Experience in industrial processes, air pollution control devices, test methods and monitoring compliance with air emission sources.

Preference may be given to those with a BS Degree, or higher, in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering field. Preference may also be given to those with a Professional Engineering License. 

Based on a candidate's experience, the selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Engineer I, an  Environmental Engineer II, or an  Environmental Engineer III.  An Environmental Engineer I and Environmental Engineer II have the potential to move to an Environmental Engineer III.  A candidate hired as an Environmental Engineer I will qualify for an initial salary range of  $21.43-$25.00.  A candidate hired as an Environmental Engineer II will qualify for an initial salary range of $25.23-$28.00.  A candidate hired as an Environmental Engineer III will qualify for an initial salary range of $28.12-$32.00.

  • Engineer -In-Training (EIT) or the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
