Job Description

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

Support of NYPA Technical Services department, working with Environmental Engineer and other department engineers while understanding the safety component of the work.  

Understand the Environmental Engineer, department engineer and safety administrator responsibilities

Contribute to the ongoing development of the CEC site intra-net to support these individuals.

Conduct site Environmental/Safety observations, identify hazards and recommend the mitigation of such hazards.

Understand construction management aspects of environmental and safety perspectives.

Attend content appropriate Environmental/Safety/Staff meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision
Develop your communication skills with NYPA Union & Management Staff
Develop your IH skills of Assessment, Sampling and Mitigation of hazards
Collaborate with other NYPA Safety Professionals

Gain the knowledge of what regulations apply to NYPA Transmission.
Understand how NYPA interacts with outside regulators, contractors, other utilities, and organizations.
Understand record keeping requirements and various methods of historical retention

Apply candidates previous educational knowledge and experience to a complex work environment
Understand the safety regulations impact on the work force in a real world job tasks. 
Improve your communication skills with various audiences. 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Pursuing a Degree in Civil / Environmental Engineering, preferably in Junior or Senior year
General Knowledge of the Environmental/Safety Regulations
Must be able to work in a team environment and be contributing member
Must have good oral and written communication skills

Competencies

Must be able to work independently
Must be able to prioritize and manage dynamic work load
Must be able to work with NYPA departments in maintaining personnel safety while achieving departments goals
Must have good communication skills
