This position supervises environmental health staff in Spotsylvania and Caroline counties. Responsible for all environmental programs except food service. Assigns duties of Environmental Health Specialists and Environmental Health Associates and ensures the proper application and enforcement of the rules and regulations for on-site sewage systems, rabies, private water supplies and general environmental complaints according to GMPS, AOSE regulations and established local policies.
Comprehensive knowledge of principles, policies and practices of environmental health. Demonstrated ability to: communicate well both orally and in writing, analyze and solve problems; interpret and apply complex regulations; work effectively with the public; lead and supervise others. Knowledge of methods of sewage disposal/treatment. Extensive knowledge and experience applying the Sewage Handling and Disposal Regulations and Private Well Regulations. Skilled in interacting and communicating effectively with staff, the public and government agencies both orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations to public groups. Ability to provide technical assistance and consultation; computer experience. DPOR licensed, On-site Soil Evaluator.
Prefer Bachelors Degree in environmental health, biology, or related field, or equivalent experience in an environmental health field. Prefer a REHS, CPSS.
