A highly motivated individual is needed to join a team of forward thinking professionals committed to providing environmental health protection for the City of Norfolk. Work assignments may be narrow or broad and include areas such as: restaurant/food establishments, soils/sewage, private wells, insect/rodent abatement, rabies containment, beach monitoring, tourist establishments, swimming pools, personal service establishments; air, noise, and water complaints/nuisance complaints in support of district goals and objectives.
Extensive knowledge of principles/practices of Environmental and Public Health. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations and city code relating to environmental health. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with health professionals, staff, and the general public. The ability to attain Standardization in food safety by successfully completing training modules and exercises within first eighteen (18) months of employment. The ability to prepare and to present to public groups and teach food safety to food establishment staff. Good working knowledge of databases, programs and spreadsheets.
Nationally recognized Environmental Health Specialist registration preferred. Bachelor of Science degree in public or environmental health, physical sciences or related programs, or equivalent experience and combination of education equivalent to an undergraduate degree preferred. Speaks, reads and writes a second language other than English preferred.
