The Montgomery County Department of Parks has seasonal opportunities located in the Southern and Northern Regions focusing on maintenance of stormwater management facilities. The Montgomery County Department of Parks is responsible for the maintenance of over 300 stormwater management facilities of various types, including, wet ponds, dry ponds, sand filters, infiltration, bioretention, and swales. This position involves park general maintenance work, involving operation of equipment and specialized assignments requiring training and experience. The position involves performing general and skilled stormwater management facility maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The position requires operation of a variety of equipment (for example, trucks, lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, hand tools, tractors with attachments, riding mowers). Incumbents of this class regularly perform assignments as part of a group, but may occasionally work alone. Performs other related duties as assigned. May be required to drive Commission vehicles upon completion of Defensive Driving training. This position involves performing physically demanding work outdoors in a variety of settings.Specific Experience:Knowledge of principles of stormwater management including types of stormwater management facilities, basic design principles, and routine maintenance tasks. Experience operating landscape maintenance tools is required.
Southern Region Park Locations
The Southern Region encompasses the southern portion of Montgomery County: Cabin John Regional Park, Wheaton Regional, Beach Drive, Sligo Creek Parkway, Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Park, and numerous local and neighborhood parks. Work location for the Southern Region Positions will be Cabin John Regional Park.
Northern Region Park Locations
The Northern Region encompasses the northern portion of Montgomery County: Little Bennett Regional Park, Black Hill Regional Park, Rock Creek Regional Park, Shady Grove Maintenance Area, Olney Manor Recreational Park, and South Germantown Recreational Park and numerous local and neighborhood parks. Work location for the Northern Region positions will be Black Hill Regional Park.
Specialized training and experience is necessary for those jobs requiring specialized equipment operation in grounds and facility maintenance, specialized program leadership and supervision, technical clerical activities, etc. NOTE: College degree is desirable for those positions involved in program leadership, coordination, and supervision in a program activity situation.
