Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an energetic and enthusiastic biologist for immediate employment in the Raleigh office to learn and work with a team of talented environmental professionals and apply their academic knowledge in the environmental field. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge of biological and ecological systems specific to the North Carolina and the southeastern United States. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to supporting projects, such as wetland and stream delineations and assessments, threatened and endangered species surveys, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, and preparation of permit applications.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct wetland and stream delineations

  • Conduct field studies related to natural resources, protected species, wildlife resources and related parameters

  • Prepare natural resources technical reports

  • Assist with the preparation of NEPA documents

  • Coordinate with regulatory and resource agencies with regard to NEPA, ecological studies and permitting

  • Work in regional program areas related to natural/water resources planning, community development, coastal zone management and others

The successful candidate must be capable of performing field work in difficult weather conditions, and easily handle terrain obstacles such as fences and streams as well as animal nuisances such as ticks, mosquitos and snakes. Travel will be required, including overnight stays.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, biological science, agriculture, geology, or any scientific related field)

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in relevant scientific related field

  • Knowledge of environmental data collection, identification, investigation, and data entry

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision

  • Exceptionally strong research, writing, verbal, organization skills

  • Strong working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required

  • Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel

  • Writing sample and college transcripts required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or related discipline

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and analysis experience

  • Proficient using Global Positioning System (GPS) units

  • Experience identifying vegetation and plant communities within the Piedmont and Atlantic Coastal regions

  • PWS or WPIT certificate
