Job Description

Law Clerk- Fall Term

Commitment: 15-40 hours per week during the fall term, depending on the applicant's schedule.

Minimum Commitment: 10 weeks Pay Rate: $22.37 per hour

Positions may either be paid or for academic credit. Applicants should indicate their preference in their cover letter.

About DOEE OGC: OGC has a staff of ten attorneys and four support staff. The office handles a variety of issues, including: (1) advising the Director on legal and policy matters related to the Departments mission; (2) drafting legislation, regulations, Council testimony, and agency reports; (3) negotiating and drafting memoranda of understanding with other District, Federal and State agencies; (4) providing legal opinions concerning Departmental programs and activities; (5) analyzing, commenting on, and possibly challenging existing and proposed Federal legislation and regulations relating to Departmental programs; (6) reviewing for legal sufficiency all notices, proposed rules, policies, contracts, and administrative issuances regarding provisions of the law that relate to programs and activities of the Department; (6) representing the agency in administrative hearings; (7) conducting enforcement actions including negotiating settlement agreements and incorporating supplemental environmental projects; and (8) conducting or supporting litigation before the Public Service Commission, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and traditional courts.
