Join Cardno’s Science and Environment Division team in Newark, DE to play an integral role in supporting Cardno's fisheries program.
Cardno is seeking a Biologist in our Newark, DE office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
> Readily identify estuarine fish (and shellfish) that commonly occur in the Mid-Atlantic area to the species level and be able to key out less common fish species
> Use fish survey techniques to collect and hold fish in a safe manner
> Perform biological field surveys or assessments, data interpretation, and analysis and report writing as needed
> Electronic form data collection
> Daily reporting and survey report compilation
> Manage day to day operations of small to medium sized projects
> Field investigation/study design (including oil spill response)
> Communicating and coordinating with contractors, project managers, field coordinators, and project staff
> Directing a field team of 1 to 4 technicians
> Perform additional level and skill appropriate duties as needed
> B.S. in fisheries, environmental science, or related natural science field
> Minimum of 0-3 years of professional experience
> High level of expertise in species identification of estuarine fish occurring in the mid-Atlantic region
> Comfortable working in remote or industrial areas and the ability to work extended hours.
> Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain
> Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends to meet project deadlines
> Excellent oral and written communication skills
> Computer literate and experienced with common word processing, Excel, database, statistical, and graphics programs (e.g., Microsoft Office products).
> Capable of writing reports at the college level and making oral presentations
> Ability to travel to field sites and other Cardno office locations throughout North America
> Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary group in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
> Must be authorized to work in U.S. without company sponsorship
> 40hr OSHA HAZWOPER Certification
> Solid time-management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects with tight deadlines
> Ability to conduct field programs
> Educational and/or work experience includes focus on environmental and/or natural resource applications
> GIS experience a plus
