PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE
The practice creates, integrates, visualizes, and communicates planning concepts as they move from initial vision through implementation. Our planning professionals build strong client partnerships, working with residents, businesses, developers, educational and medical organizations, state and local governments, the military, and other federal agencies to successfully plan the future of communities or institutions. At Michael Baker, we focus on people and places, improving communities and creating more sustainable, convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive locales. Our Environmental Planning Group prepares CEQA/NEPA documentation for a wide range of projects—roadways, rail, airports, energy/utilities and water/wastewater facilities, commercial/industrial development, residential and mixed-use projects, and educational, recreational, and military facilities.
Michael Baker is seeking full-time environmental planners located in our Oakland and Rancho Cordova offices specializing in environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. The position involves research and preparation of interdisciplinary environmental documents in compliance with CEQA and/or NEPA, working as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The environmental planner position is best suited for a candidate with a positive attitude and strong research, mathematical/scientific, analytical, and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will have 5–10 years of related experience and strong writing skills, as this is a primary competency required of the position, and be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This individual must have the ability to coordinate effectively with multiple project managers and to prioritize and complete high-quality work within specified time frames. Attention to detail (including strong spelling, proofreading, and organizational skills) is required, in addition to a strong work ethic and experience working in a team-oriented environment.
