As an air quality and noise specialist, you will have the opportunity to impact air quality, environmental permitting, and compliance projects. Specific responsibilities include air quality analysis (criteria air pollutant emissions, general air quality conformity, air toxics and health risk assessments, source dispersion modeling), greenhouse gas emissions analysis (construction and operational emissions, source reductions, climate change policy/climate action plan consistency assessment), and noise analysis (ambient noise measurements, stationary and mobile noise modeling, construction monitoring). While experience in both noise and air quality/GHG analysis is desirable, if the selected candidate has skills solely in noise or in air quality/GHG analysis, we will provide training in the other service area.


  • Collect and analyze air quality, greenhouse gas, and noise data, including field data collection
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments under CEQA and NEPA using CalEEMod or a related model for air emissions and Federal Highway Administration and other models and spreadsheets for noise impacts
  • Prepare report sections for CEQA and NEPA documents, including environmental and regulatory setting, impact assessment, and mitigation measures
  • Research proposed projects and prepare scopes of work that address existing regulations and site-specific conditions
  • Work collaboratively with our project managers and teams
  • Attend client and public meetings to support project planners, managers, and clients•Complete other duties as assigned


  • A 4-year or advanced degree in environmental science, engineering, meteorology, planning, or a related discipline and 2 to 10 years of experience in related projects
  • Experience with running CalEEMod and noise models and working with project teams to develop input parameters, interpret results, and develop mitigation measures
  • Experience with calibrating and running advanced noise models such as SoundPLAN and generating graphics depicting model results
  • Ability to conduct research and to prepare and peer review related technical reports on air emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, noise, and vibration
  • Experience conducting health risk assessments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting air and noise modeling results•Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to accommodate moderate amounts of travel to client offices
