Michael Baker is actively seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Planning and Environmental Team in Round Rock, Texas. The candidate will act as the environmental task lead on transportation projects, assist with project management, and assist with production of environmental technical documents.  The candidate will work with a multi-disciplined and highly technical team of engineering, environmental and planning professionals on a variety of transportation projects.



  • Assist with project management duties including scheduling, budgeting, scoping, and task management
  • Serve as environmental task lead for NEPA and planning studies
  • Prepare resource technical reports for TxDOT projects
  • Perform quality control reviews of technical documents
  • Assist with writing proposals as needed
  • Some overnight field work required (primarily in Texas)
  • Some attendance at public involvement events in the evening required (primarily in Texas)


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Geography, or related field
  • 5-10 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience with technical studies and documentation for NEPA projects
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface directly with clients in a professional manor
  • Ability to work independently, productively, and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
  • Microsoft Office Suite competency
  • Microsoft Project experience preferred
  • GIS experience preferred
  • Experience with transportation/highway projects is a plus
  • Experience with rail or transit projects, working with the FTA, FRA, or municipal agencies is a plus
