The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Section of the Government Operations & Transactions Division.

The attorney in this position will provide both advice and litigation services to Virginia’s environmental agencies, including the Department of Environmental Quality, and the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy. Duties of this position include significant client contact; handling civil and administrative litigation; review of environmental-related legislation and regulations; and drafting official opinions for the Attorney General. This position is located in Richmond, Virginia reporting directly to the Chief of the Environmental Section.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technical drafting skills and the ability to analyze and manage complex cases and transactions. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, including first and second chair trial work in both state and federal courts and transactional and contracting experience involving Virginia’s environmental agencies.
