Job Description

Puget Sound Clean Air Agency seeks a talented professional with technical and analytical experience in areas related to air quality, emission inventories, transportation, and/or climate models.

The Air Resources Specialist will work closely with colleagues in the Planning, Analysis, and Forecasting team, with direction from the Technical Analysis Manager to deliver specific objectives of our strategic plan to communicate air quality throughout the region and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) from transportation.

A typical pathway to qualify for this position would be a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s level desirable) in a science or engineering field relevant to climate change and/or air quality, and  5+ years of technical and analytical experience in relevant activities.

 Job Duties Include:

• Work closely with internal and external partners to identify, evaluate, and implement strategies that reduce harmful air pollution and
GHG emissions from transportation in our region.
• Evaluate and analyze air monitoring data, understand dispersion and other air quality modeling results, and conduct emissions
inventories as needed.
• Author and edit technical reports that synthesize complex technical information into coherent policy/strategy options for review
and use by a broad-based audience.
• Communicate technical information clearly to a variety of internal and external audiences.
• Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with appropriate counterparts in other agencies, community organizations, and
other entities.
• Develop ideas and find ways to make air quality more equitable in our region for underrepresented communities.
• Develop, implement, and manage project plans that support the Agency’s strategic priorities.
• Develop technical tools to communicate air quality concepts, working closely with information technology (IT) colleagues.
• Provide technical and/or general assistance to internal and external customers.
• Participate in meteorological and air quality forecasting, as needed.
• Align and integrate project work with the Agency’s strategic plan to attain Agency goals, objectives and long-term vision.

Required Skills and Abilities Include:

• Experience working independently to research air quality information and apply sound professional judgment to determine reliable sources.
• Dedication to teamwork, i.e., works collaboratively with internal and external teams, and assists in the development of solutions to project-related problems and issues.
• Successful experience working independently with minimal supervision; self-directed.
• Strong project management and organizational skills to initiate and run projects, following the Agency’s project management system.
• Proven ability to work successfully under tight deadlines and high quality standards.
• Expertise with emission inventories, air quality, transportation, or climate models.
• Expertise with technical tools such as GIS, R, Matlab, SPSS, desirable. Intermediate level knowledge of MS Office products.
• Desire to explore ways to make air quality more equitable for underrepresented communities.
• Demonstrated skill working collaboratively with diverse organizations and individuals, creating and maintaining strong relationships with them, and persuading others to take action.
• Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and presentation skills suitable for interaction with internal and external technical and nontechnical
colleagues, stakeholders, partners, contractors, and consultants.
• Knowledge and understanding of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and how it applies to the Agency’s work.
