Job Description

HDR is looking for an Environmental Scientist/Compliance Specialist in our Greenville, SC office to work as a member of our Transportation Business Group. General duties will include assisting public and private clients with environmental permit coordination, acquisition and compliance. They may work independently or as a task leader on projects, assisting more senior professionals on larger complex projects. 

The primary objectives for this position will include addressing client authority and contractor environmental concerns throughout a project, compiling environmental commitments, permit standards/special conditions, maintaining thorough documentation and environmental compliance forms, and completing an environmental close out package at the completion of every project. Additional primary duties of the Environmental Scientist may include collecting project related data which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, land use, etc. They will be expected to assimilate and manage data, as well as prepare constraints mapping. They will define the level of environmental analysis required, and conduct environmental impact assessments. They will perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods, and assist with preparation and participation in public information meetings and hearings. They will also assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance, and work independently on medium sized projects or assist more senior scientists on larger projects. 

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications

BS and/or MS degree in Environmental Sciences (or related field) required

SCDHEC Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector (CEPSCI) or ability to become certified at earliest opportunity

5+ years technical and or field experience completing environmental reviews, preparing environmental documentation and environmental permits

Proficient with GIS and MS Office (Word, Excel), familiarity with Microstation/AutoCad

Strong environmental writing and communication skills a must

Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and research abilities required

Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, the ability to make most decisions independently without input from senior management, and the ability to interact with clients or client designees

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with providing environmental services within the industry, specifically in the transportation market

Demonstrated knowledge of USACE/FHWA/FTA/FRA/FAA NEPA and state (SCDOT, DHEC, OCRM) environmental processes

Experience managing linear infrastructure projects within the transportation industry and/or other public sector arenas
