This internship will assist the Port's Environmental Remediation team and the GIS staff to create a monitoring well database. Tasks may include creating and managing a geodatabase to store and manage well data; ground truthing well locations; and verifying well locations in the field using a hand-held GPS unit. If time allows, there may be opportunities to assist with creating a 3D subsurface model.
This internship is expected to start on or around June 1st for 3 months.
Hours will be Monday-Friday, between 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university or enrolled in an accredited graduate school, with completed course work in geology and GIS. Coursework and interest in Environmental Science and related fields is preferred.
Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. The ability to collect, compile and analyze data and communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing are essential. The ideal candidate will be able to take direction, move a project forward with moderate supervision, be able to multi-task, be open to taking on a variety of different types of work, be detail oriented and enjoy being part of a team.
