Job Description

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 31, 2019 or until filled

For over 125 years, Portland General Electric has proudly served Oregon. Our dedication to helping customers is matched by our commitment to providing PGE employees with a diverse array of rewarding career opportunities. Diversity and community are at the heart of what we do for our customers and for each other. We are committed to a team that looks like the Oregon community that we know and love.

As part of the federal licenses for many of PGE’s generation facilities, PGE’s parks and recreation facilities are available to the public. Our parks help protect natural areas, develop the economy by attracting tourism, and provide recreational and learning opportunities for families, including a Junior Rangers program for children.

PGE team members are creative problem solvers who love to apply themselves to challenges, big and small. We are looking for team members who will grow their skills, their career and their future with us.

Park Technicians - Seasonal (T18-052)

Explore the beauty of the Northwest in PGE’s parks and campgrounds!

If you are someone that enjoys the outdoors, has excellent customer service skills, and is looking to spend the summer in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest serving our guests, this may be the job for you!

Starting Wage: $17.98 per hour

Our Park Technicians have two main assignments, the Interpretive & Education Tech and the Dispersed Site Tech. Assignments and work locations are subject to change during the season to meet Operational needs. There are shared housing options available.

Interpretive & Education Tech: Love teaching? Traveling? And the outdoors? All trails lead to this dream job as a seasonal Interpretive Technician in Oregon’s beautiful Pacific Northwest and High Desert. Present campfire programs, organize kids’ activities, schedule guest speakers, and assist with special events in Portland General Electric’s campgrounds.

Dispersed Site Tech: Interested in natural resources or recreation management? Looking to get your boot in the door? Look no further than Oregon’s Mount Hood National Forest. With Portland General Electric’s job as a seasonal Dispersed Site Technician, you’ll hike trails, check permits and maintain dispersed campsites while utilizing GIS to record, map and report on public use patterns.

You will support our journey by:

The PGE Parks team is seeking customer-centric employees. PGE promotes diversity, equality and inclusion, and we expect every employee to treat each guest with the highest level of respect. You will meet many guests who have complaints. You must be very comfortable turning unhappy customers into happy guests. We want you to be intentional about every choice you make and think about how your actions will make the customer feel or say about PGE Parks. We are seeking employees who are eager to delight every customer equally. We need positive problem-solvers that are always looking to make the customer experience positive.

This is an outdoor job, and you’ll be outside all day. You need to be comfortable working in rain or heat. The early weeks in May and June might be rainy, but by July 4th the rain normally is completely gone and except for a few days, the season will be dry to the end of September. The temperatures are usually cool (50s and 60s) in the evenings with very low humidity but will be in the 70s to 90s during the day. Again, this depends upon the exact location of the campgrounds. The higher the elevation the cooler the temperatures. In almost all areas the main camping happens between July 4 and Labor Day. Memorial Day is also crowded, but June usually gives you a chance to gradually get used to working in the campgrounds.

You will bring the following skills to our team:

  • Valid driver’s license and demonstrated good driving habits.
  • Relative work experience or currently seeking a degree in Recreation Resource Management or related natural resource field.

We can conduct interviews over the phone. As part of the hiring process, our job offers are contingent upon passing a drug screen (following federal guidelines), physical, and a criminal background, professional references, and driving checks.
