Responsibilities

  • Utilize a knowledge of natural, physical, and social sciences theories, practices, and methodologies, as they relate to the natural and human environment, to serve as a regulatory specialist with technical expertise.
  • Evaluate permit application, compliance, or enforcement cases for activities navigable waters of the US within the regulatory authority of the Clean Water Act, Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899, and Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act.
  • Provide advice to potential applicants/permittees concerning regulatory requirements in the application for permit activities or work in waters of the U.S.
  • Evaluate requests, determine appropriate type of authorization and request additional information.
  • Identify alternatives which satisfy project goals and have lesser adverse impact.
  • Recommend issuance/denial of permits/modifications, or conditions of issuance, and documents in a Statement of Findings (SOF).
  • Monitor permit implementation, provide consultation/approvals, and modify permits.
