 Weyerhaeuser is among the largest private landowners in New England with approximately 950,000 acres and 12 million acres in the US.  We are seeking a forestry student with interest in working on our Maine forestlands during the summer of 2019.  This internship opportunity is at our Bingham, ME office location. Our internship program provides college students with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable field experience working with our team on real-world situations and projects.  In addition to a competitive compensation package, interns will have the chance to achieve the following: Gain valuable experience in industrial forest managementCollaborate with professional foresters and build a professional networkExplore forestry disciplines and career interestsAssessment for a full-time position within the company upon graduationContribute to the future of sustainable forestry Key Functions:  The Early Rotation Forestry Intern will be responsible for conducting field exams in our young stands and updating survival detail in our inventory system.  The position will entail natural covertype field examinations, plantation survival assessments, silvicultural history maintenance in the inventory system, and survival check plot auditing. The position will be 80% field work and 20% office work.  The candidate will be responsible for visiting young stands in the field and collecting detailed stocking and competition data.  The candidate will be utilizing mobile technology to navigate sites and collect survival detail for input into the inventory system.  The position will also be auditing 3rd party contractors conducting survival check work.  This is a great position for forestry students looking to go into early rotation silviculture.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Forestry, GIS, or a closely-related program
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must pass the background check and drug test required of all Weyerhaeuser employees
  • Be able to read a map and use a compass / GPS
  • Work in the field in a variety of conditions and terrain
  • Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
  • Have a working knowledge of ArcGIS desktop
  • Strong problem solver
  • Detail oriented
  • Willingness to learn
