Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Midland, Michigan office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a desire for a career in environmental sciences with a focus on environmental regulatory support, environmental sampling, waste characterization, and data analysis specific to air, water and waste. This role will require experience in task management, organization skills, and the ability to excel both individually and in a team environment. AECOM is looking for a highly motivated candidate with interest in environmental, health and safety as it relates to a wide range of environmental projects. The incumbent will utilize scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies in the Environment discipline to develop and provide solutions to technical problems. Projects will include environmental site assessments, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Facility investigations, and preparation of technical reports, environmental compliance sampling and industrial plant support.

Incumbent Responsibilities

A combination of the following responsibilities under the direction of a professional or experienced Environmental Scientist or Project Manager:

  • Completion of field inspections and observations

  • Perform compliance tasks related to several different regulatory requirements in the areas of air, water, and waste

  • Perform environmental sampling of wastewater, cooling tower water and air

  • Work with multiple client businesses to support their EH&S objectives

  • Support the environmental sampling team by coordinating sampling events, scheduling work, and ensuring they have required materials to complete job

  • Coordination with outside analytical laboratories to ensure the data and quality objectives are achieved

  • Complete annual air emissions modeling for wastewater treatment plant

  • Preparation of technical reports and routine monitoring reports

  • Review and validate analytical reports for accuracy and correctness; and

  • Support Project Managers on various environmental projects

  • Experience working on teams

  • Must be able to plan ahead for projects, identify materials and equipment needed, develop and meet schedule

  • Must be able to derive decisions and recommendations based on collected data

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Science or related field (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management)

  • 0-2 years of experience

  • Experience collecting environmental samples and working in an industrial setting

  • Experience using spreadsheets, word processing and standard MS Office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as ArcGIS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with applicable EH&S rule and regulations (MACT, CAA, CWA, and RCRA waste and Corrective Action regulations)

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and must have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions

  • Must be able to work at heights
