Salary: $29,847 (Step 01) $38,798 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. 

Temporary - This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 12 months that may be extended for 12 additional months without further competition.

Responsibilities

As a Biological Science Technician within the Southwest Biological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: 

  • Collects biological data from desert tortoises in a field environment.
  • Performs laboratory analysis of data to determine specified biological or physical characteristics.
  • Enters, proofs and manages field data for archiving and analysis. 
  • Drafts portions of scientific reports.
  • Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires some physical exertion such as standing for long periods of time, walking long distances over rugged terrain, stooping, bending, and carrying moderate loads.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in a laboratory or field environment. Field work involves moderate or sometimes extreme exposure to the discomforts of rain and cold/hot weather. Special safety precautions are required in many cases, and the employee may typically wear hiking boots and special organism handling gear. 

Travel Required

25% or less - Overnight travel of an average of up to 5 nights per month may be required.
