Job Description

Location(s): United States; Alabama, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, Virginia; Clearwater

Role Summary:

Under general direction, specialist will assist the company in creating a safe working environment for all employees by maintaining comprehensive environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs for manufacturing and engineering facilities. The position provides technical expertise and tactical resolution to ensure compliance with EHS regulations, company policies and standards,and best practices. Ideal candidate will champion proactive initiatives to positively influence site safety culture.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, as the EHS Specialist, you will:

  • Perform daily / routine audits to identify unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors, and environmental issues
  • Provide day-to-day EHS support for manufacturing and engineering facilities
  • Assist manager to ensure compliance with external / internal audits and Federal, State, County safety regulations
  • Respond to and investigate events including: injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of effective corrective / preventive actions
  • Drive accountability with all functions and associates to aggressively reduce accident and injuries
  • Facilitate employee and contractor training
  • Create, review, and implement safety risk assessments
  • Implement and lead safety committee to increase levels of safety performance
  • Engage and influence leadership support in an EHS-first culture
  • Review & investigate all employee exposures and injuries; develop action plans to reduce incident rates
  • Apply ergonomic principles to improve workstations and minimize injuries
  • Enter information into Gensuite applications
  • Execute routine but complex analysis to include producing reports, conducting meetings, reporting findings to management, and following up to ensure items are correcte
  • Provide functional expertise and take action for facility to attain ISO 45001 or equivalent certification
  • Manage multiple projects and other responsibilities simultaneously
  • Adapt to changing priorities
  • Make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information
  • Team effectively with cross-functional members
  • Perform other standard EHS Specialist duties as required
  • Work with unyielding personal integrity

Qualifications/Requirements: 

BS or BA in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college (Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal / State / Industry safety and occupational health regulations & management systems
  • Broad knowledge of all governmental regulations applicable to the effective performance of the duties and responsibilities outlined for this position

Desired Characteristics:

  • Working towards Safety, Health, or Environmental certification (ASP, CSP, COSS, CIH, CDG, etc.)
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Ability to track trends and produce annual reporting to government agencies as required by regulations
  • Knowledge of Gensuite applications
  • Excellent communicator to employees, employers and public officials
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, program, and project management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and drive multiple programs
  • Competency using Microsoft Office and other standard office PC applications
  • Must be extremely organized and keep accurate record and documentation
  • Aptitude for planning and implementing employee programs
