Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a full-time Biologist for immediate employment in our Bismarck, ND office in the Central Region. The selected candidate must be self-motivated and able to follow through with assignments, with a strong background and field expertise in wetland delineation, state and federal permitting, and environmental planning. This is a position providing the individual an opportunity to expand upon their wetland science and natural resources field skills, as well as report preparation and project management skills.

AECOM is seeking a dynamic individual, capable of conducting the below work with local knowledge of ecosystems; someone who works well with others and is comfortable in small or large groups; and who can skillfully and efficiently prepare high quality technical documentation/reports/permit packages.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting wetland delineations

  • Regulatory permitting

  • Wildlife habitat evaluation

  • Endangered species surveys

  • Impact assessment and mitigation planning

  • Restoration and mitigation site monitoring

  • Construction monitoring

  • Report preparation and interactions with state and federal agencies

  • Performing client visits and field activities and attending meetings with regulatory agencies that require work outside the office and overnight travel

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in BiologyEcology, Natural Resources or related environmental field

  • 5+ years of experience in ecology

  • Experience in some or all of the following activities: proven wetland delineation expertise, wetland and stream quality assessments, wetland and stream mitigation design and monitoring, endangered species habitat assessments, and rare plant surveys

  • Experience with state wetlands regulatory permitting programs in upper Midwest (ND, SD, MN, WS, MT) as well as Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting

  • An understanding of municipal, state, and federal environmental regulations, permitting, and policy in upper Midwest states

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment

  • The individual should be comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations in all types of weather and traveling on a regular basis to project sites located in North Dakota and the surrounding Midwest U.S. region

  • Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel.

  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written

  • Good working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work

  • Strong skills in operating field sampling equipment including GPS

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources or related field

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 40 hour wetland delineation training preferred

  • Knowledge of upper plains flora, fauna and natural systems preferred

  • Experience as a Project Manager or Deputy/Assistant Project Manager

  • Excellent technical writing skills and ability to effectively express his or herself orally among internal staff, clients, and sub-contractors

  • Experience with statistics, ArcGIS or AutoCAD

  • Demonstrated proposal writing skills, including competitive proposals

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to scope, schedule, and budget
