Summary

This is a seasonal appointment; you will be in a pay status for at least 6 months, but less than 12 months a year. When work or funds are not available you will be placed in non-pay status.

Responsibilities

  • Direct an aerial attack and delivery operation involving smokejumpers, cargo, retardant, and helicopters.
  • Supervise up to 10 smokejumpers in prescribed fire planning and implementation, suppression and pre-suppression planning.
  • Direct and lead the accomplishment of work in remote situations.
  • Serve as an active smokejumper, spotter and parachute rigger.
  • Conduct a wide variety of training related to fire suppression, aviation, parachute training, prescribed fire and fire monitoring.

Travel Required

50% or less - This position requires travel by scheduled or chartered aircraft or ground vehicles to various destinations in the western U.S. for incident assignments lasting up to 14 days.
