The Office of Drinking Water (ODW) is seeking a Environmental Engineer as an entry-level position assigned to the Lexington Field Office (LFO). This position serves as an Assistant District Engineer and will work in Work Area 7 (Counties of Shenandoah, Page, Frederick, Warren and Clarke). This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to 163 waterworks serving a population of approximately 152,000 Virginians. The engineering duties will include: performing engineering evaluations of waterworks; evaluates and drafts permits; evaluates operating manuals; conducts routine facility inspections as assigned; conducts tests and monitors operations; writes technical reports; provides technical assistance to facility operators; investigates routine complaints and drafts violation notices.  

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of environmental engineering pertaining to drinking water; (advanced math; physics; water chemistry; microbiology; fluid mechanics; hydraulics & hydrology; geology; and design of drinking water facilities). Education or experience demonstrating technical writing ability and oral presentation skills. Education or experience demonstrating the ability to use standard office suite products and information. Education or experience with an emphasis on database software is a plus.  

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college/university. Certification as EIT or PE in VA is preferred.
