Tetra Tech’s Integrated Water Management group is looking for a mid-level Environmental Scientist/Field Specialist on a short-term, temporary basis to support federal and state projects involving water quality monitoring, field surveys, wetland delineations, data analysis and watershed management. This position is located in our Charleston, West Virginia office. The successful candidate will have experience in water quality monitoring, taking flow measurements, familiarity with WVDEP SOPs and proper QA/QC procedures, and the ability to transport monitoring equipment to the job site. The ability to make independent decisions and adjust to unexpected conditions while in the field is critical. He or she will be a self-starter who can work independently and can work as a team member to support complex projects. The position will require some overnight travel to some job sites. 

Responsibilities:   

-Independently lead water quality monitoring, stream assessments, and other field work 
-Perform wetland delineations and prepare wetland assessment reports 
-Analyze watershed and water quality data using GIS and statistical techniques 
-Develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures/maps, and tables/matrices 
-Perform writing assignments to contribute to project documentation and deliverables such as memos and reports 

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in environmental science (or a related field) 
-More than 15 years of relevant work experience 
-Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills 
-Experience conducting water quality monitoring and taking flow measurements 
-Experience with and understanding of West Virginia standard operating procedures (SOPs) for water quality monitoring 
-Ability to follow QA/QC procedures 
-Computer literate; proficient in MS Word and Excel 
-Organized and detail oriented 
-Good time management skills 
-Highly motivated 
-Ability to travel to remote field sites and through rugged terrain
