Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity in our Environmental Group for a Compliance Specialist. The position requires solid regulatory and technical understanding of facility and corporate-level multi-media environmental permitting/compliance support, including compliance/systems auditing, permit preparation, hazardous waste management (RCRA), and facility-level training. Must have experience understanding and implementing environmental compliance programs, and assisting industrial clients.

The position will require key areas of compliance support including, but not limited to: air compliance, including air permitting (Construction, PSD, Title V, etc.), emission inventory reporting, and accidental release (PSM/RMP) provisions. Other duties as assigned.

Experience with health & safety issues in a plant environment is a plus, but not required. Experience with waste management oversight in a plant environment is also a plus, but not required. Business development and/or management experience is a plus. 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required.


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field from an accredited program is required. Applicable experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

  • A minimum of 7 years of environmental compliance experience working with commercial and industrial clients is preferred.

  • Strong Knowledge of environmental regulatory guidelines.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office are required.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required.

  • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
