Job Summary

AECOM is looking for an experienced Environmental Natural Resource Scientist to join our northeast region IAP/ natural resources practice in New England.

This position will support an extensive portfolio of environmental projects in wetland, sediment management, terrestrial, and coastal marine environments in the United States. We are looking for a superior candidate with a strong foundation in environmental science, including experience with field equipment, measurements, and lab procedures.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Sediment coring/ grab sampling, surface water and media sampling, benthic community studies, driller oversight, analytical laboratory coordination and potentially wetlands and vernal pool work.

  • Work supporting on-water activities in freshwater and near shore coastal marine environments. Primary field sampling work will be in support of remedial investigation, natural resources inventory, and/or energy transmission projects

  • Research, report writing and project budgeting

  • Function as a task manager and Field Team Leader and provide Office planning and analysis support as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, soils science or biology or other related discipline and be able work within a team environment for the successful execution of projects

  • 4+ years of scientific and/ or technical experience working in related technical field

  • Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high level review and evaluate strategy

  • Strong writing skills, working knowledge of related regulatory programs (NEPA, CERCLA, CWA, etc) along with prior experience in the evaluation and impact assessment of these projects

  • Computer proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ESRI ARC GIS, and a variety of statistical programs (e.g., Stata, SigmaPlot, etc)

  • Comprehension of Government compliant technical reports, deliverables, recordkeeping

  • Experience directing/ leading/ supporting field programs involving field sampling in terrestrial/ on-water setting, biological and chemical sampling (water, sediment, biota), coordination/ management of laboratories and sub-contractors

  • Technical background in applied physical science supporting scientific studies, sampling programs and permitting in the aquatic environment

  • Strong team-oriented focus both working with Project Managers and working with staff executing concurrent tasks

  • Ability to oversee collection and analysis of large spatially explicit data sets

  • Ability to work with Project Managers to prepare field task scoping to Task Order Requests, pricing and execution of work, etc

  • Must be comfortable with boat based sampling and experience managing field staff

  • Some regional project travel required (40%)

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour certified.

  • Candidate must be able to pass requirements of an OSHA screening physical

  • First Aid/CPR training

  • Candidate must exhibit a mature sense of professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience with GPS technology a plus

  • A proven track record in a consulting environment is preferred and willingness to work on a variety of environmental projects for government, industrial, and commercial clients
