Job Description

Scope of Position:

You will be involved with Research & Development projects impacting environmental regulations at Sullivan Park. Our projects can vary across various Corning businesses located here and at other S&T satellite locations. Divisions represented include Optical, Display, Environmental, Specialty, Pharmaceutical, and Life Sciences as well as emerging innovations. Compliance projects could include waste management, other applicable environmental compliance programs and active participation in ISO 14001 environmental management system activities. Your focus will include improvement of existing programs, development of new programs and compliance to Corning standards. 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

As the Environmental Engineer, you will provide leadership, technical support, program auditing, and assist with strategy development for site waste management programs/initiatives, and other media (Water, Air, SPCC, etc.) as requested or directed. These include:

  • Provide daily support and direction for environmental technician and waste process technicians
  • Responsible for the daily operation of waste management for Sullivan Park facility and at satellite locations
  • Technical support for existing federal laws and regulations, and updates and modifications as required for waste management documentation
  • Responsibility for submitting state and federal compliance reports
  • Participate in root cause analysis when non-compliance events/situations occur and follow-up/verification of completed corrective actions
  • Contract administration for contractors supporting environmental initiatives
  • Responsible for communication of environmental regulations as they pertain to the facility
  • Participate in review of projects, plans, specifications to verify environmental compliance
  • Support environmental assessments along with mitigation activities that will identify, evaluate and prevent non-compliant conditions or acts
  • Understands impact of processes and equipment in regard to environmental impacts & compliance
  • Provide direction for internal employees ranging from management to operations, contractors, vendors and others to maintain environmental compliance
  • Interacts with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues, establishes waste management requirements and assists in EPA, state, and regulatory audits. 

Travel Requirements: You can expect minimal travel 

Work schedule: 40 hr/wk 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Science, or Chemical Engineer plus 2+ years of experience in an environmental field
  • or AAS in Science or Chemical field plus 3+ years equivalent experience 

Required Skills:

  • Deep understanding of environmental regulations
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs, including RCRA, DOT, SPCC, etc.
  • Understands the principles of the ISO 14001 EMS standards
  • Ability to communicate regulatory compliance requirements to all levels
  • Excellent presentation skills
