Job Description

SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is an experienced professional responsible for managing the operations of a small, but growing nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the wilderness of the Quetico-Superior ecoystem. The Operations Manager oversees human resources, benefits administration, and finances. The Operations Manager serves as the primary point of contact for the auditor, outside accountant, financial institutions, landlord, IT consultant, and most other vendors. The Operations Manager also provides support for office administration, including providing administrative support for the Executive Director, processing timesheets, and ordering furniture and equipment.

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to coordinate the organization’s operations
  • Works with other staff to ensure that the administrative needs of the organization are satisfied

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Human resources, including onboarding and off-boarding personnel; maintaining confidential personnel files; maintaining and managing the worker’s compensation plan; and updating the employee manual
  • Benefits administration, including serving as the liaison to the administrator of the 403(b) retirement plan; maintaining and managing the health insurance and long-term disability insurance plans
  • Finances, including processing invoices, making deposits, and assisting with the development of the budget
  • Risk management, including maintaining and managing the business owner’s insurance policy and directors and officers insurance policy
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the auditor, outside accountant, financial institutions, landlord, IT consultant, and most other vendors
  • Office administration, including providing administrative support to the Executive Director, processing timesheets, ordering furniture and equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A problem-solver with enthusiasm for establishing and managing operational and organization systems
  • Willing to be a flexible member of a small but effective and passionate team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-pasted, entrepreneurial environment
  • A. or A.A. degree
  • Three or more years of similar operations experience
  • Passion for preserving the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and its ecosystem
