What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? 

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

Salary: $41,365 (Step 01) to $53,773 (Step 10)

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Responsibilities

As a Fish Biologist within the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center, some of your specific duties will include: 

  • Assist in the design, implementation analysis, and reporting of field investigations in aquatic ecology.
  • Assist in the design and management of field investigations - literature research, refinement of possible questions and selection of hypotheses. Assessment of methodologies, procedures and statisitical test to test the hypotheses, sampling design and data storage design.
  • Assist in field work - this work occurs in small boats with small crews in remote locations under enviromental extremes. Record, check and enter data from field work.
  • Assist in analysis - statistical test, modeling and mapping of data. Preparing metadata and data releases.
  • Assist in reporting and outreach - reporting results in scientific journals or report series.
  • Operates government owned vehicle as incidental driver.
  • The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities. The work requires moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity. Work performed in an office, laboratory and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as to not endanger self, fellow workers or property with which entrusted.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Overnight travel of up to 2 nights per month may be required.
