Job Description


The environmental coordinator is responsible for the analysis of impacts of plant operations on the environment and for the implementation of appropriate environmental management systems, which assist the business unit and plant operations in meeting environmental goals. Assesses compliance of plant operations with environmental regulations and laws. Develops plant policy and procedures on environmental matters. Prepares regulatory submittals for permits, environmental impact statements and other various documents. Works as a liaison between plant operations, environmental services and other company departments. 

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Develop and submit reports for plant management and environmental services approval to meet all regulatory requirements necessary to maintain compliance with operating permits.

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. 

Prepare financial analyses of environmental impacts on plant operations. 

Develop environmental management systems to effectively manage the limitations and restrictions imposed by operating permits.  

Perform environmental work requiring considerable independent analysis and judgments. 

Manage environmental activities of consulting firms. 

Advise plant management of the impact of proposed regulations and develops potential compliance strategies. 

Proactively participate in trade associations and on various task forces to assist in the development of environmental laws and regulations. 

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. 

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. 


 Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or the physical sciences. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) 

A minimum of three years of experience in environmental work or equivalent, with a minimum of two years demonstrated air, water or waste/land use experience. 

A broad diversity of environmental work experience in private industry, governmental and consulting is preferred. 

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

The demonstrated ability to lead projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment. 

Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably in written and verbal form. 

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with trade groups and other industries. 

Computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools and other various programs; or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills. 

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
