Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented NEPA Specialist for immediate employment in our Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential. The position is part of the environmental transportation department supporting current and future transportation projects for clients throughout the State of Georgia such as GDOT, cities, and counties. The successful incumbent will join a growing and vibrant transportation environmental department and transportation business line.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports the multi-discipline environmental group in transportation

  • Performs tasks ranging from research, writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties

  • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports

  • Compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others. Works with those who collect the data to understand and interpret data into reporting

  • Provide support which includes tracking NEPA and other environmental efforts

  • Prepares reports for internal and external audiences

  • Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, agency coordination, NEPA documents, and permit applications

  • Works under the supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, historic resources, archaeological resources, NEPA, urban planning, water quality, and/or related disciplines)

  • 4+ years of experience

  • Strong technical/scientific writing skills

  • Functional knowledge and use of ArcGIS software

  • Ability to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner

  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), State of GA rules and regulations (including Buffer Variance Regulations), Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act

  • Ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate priorities to manager

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Ability to learn new concepts and apply them to multiple scenarios

  • Impact analysis

  • Ability to work well with people from different technical backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the relevant environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, cultural resources, NEPA, urban planning, water quality, and related disciplines)

  • Previous environmental consulting experience

  • Experience with NEPA planning/implementation and public outreach, particularly as it relates to Georgia Department of Transportation is a plus

  • Willingness to expand professional experience/qualifications beyond current area of expertise
