Job Description

VHB is looking for a Environmental Project Manager to join our growing environmental and energy practice in Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing complex permitting and licensing efforts associated with energy related projects in New England, such as power generation, electric transmission/distribution, natural gas transmission/distribution, and renewable energy generation. Additionally, the candidate have a proven ability foster positive relationships with staff, clients, regulatory agencies and sub-consultants. Previous experience supervising staff preferred.

  • Lead project teams responsible for supporting the environmental permitting and licensing, engineering, and construction compliance phases of projects in the energy market.
  • Perform project management responsibilities, including project scope development, cost estimation, staff resource identification, implementation oversight, budget tracking, and completion of administrative requirements
  • Develop and implement overall permitting strategy and approach for environmental aspects of complex projects.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary VHB and subcontracted project teams
  • Oversee quality control of environmental permit deliverables for projects

Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly motivated with a client-oriented focus
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects


  • BS in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or related field; MS preferred
  • 8+ years of environmental consulting experience 
  • Relevant environmental project management experience required, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal wetland regulations, endangered species environmental regulations, and environmental permitting required  
  • Experience supervising staff preferred 
  • Travel on a regular basis to project sites located in New England and the surrounding Northeastern U.S. region may be required 
  • Writing samples and references will be required
