This employee will manage the Artificial Reef program under the guidance of the Artificial Reef Coordinator. The primary responsibilities of this position include: enhancement planning, spatial design, permit acquisition and compliance, procurement of materials, logistical planning, long-term physical and biological monitoring, data analysis, and coordination with state and federal agencies.
The Artificial Reef Biologist will ensure staff, contractors, and project partners adhere to approved construction plans and sampling procedures. This employee is also responsible for ensuring staff compliance with safety protocol and procedures. Occasionally this employee will deliver presentations to the public about North Carolina's artificial reefs and future enhancement projects. This position will directly supervise up to four Marine Fisheries Technicians.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants who were born after January 1, 1988 must be in compliance with the requirements for boating safety education, General Statute 75A-16.2.
Candidate must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within the first 6 months of employment.
A skills test will be administered to all interviewed applicants.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions require coursework in forestry.
