Teach children and young adults about waterfowl, wetlands, and conservation. Help students in kindergarten through 12th grade engage in hands-on, ecological and environmental activities with the goal of creating future stewards of our natural world by teaching classroom presentations and leading field trips.
This position is an assistantship to the Education Coordinator for organizing and implementing indoor and outdoor education programs about waterfowl and wetland conservation. Main tasks include outreach, advertisement, scheduling and presenting the Wood Duck Wonders classroom presentations, collating student and teacher packets, and tracking presentation data.
Assistant will also help develop materials, conduct field presentations, write articles for publications, attend events and festivals, and report and track event data. Assistant may also have the opportunity to participate in waterfowl banding events. The assistant will interact with teachers, students, volunteers and the public in a positive, motivating manner as a representative of California Waterfowl to encourage the development of future environmental stewards.

Qualifications: Applicants require basic wildlife/conservation biology knowledge, public speaking skills and general knowledge of waterfowl, wetland habitats and art. Pursuit of a degree in wildlife biology, conservation education, interpretation or related field is preferred.
Assistants should be interested in waterfowl and wetland issues, and enjoy working with youth ages 5 to 18. The assistant must be energetic, well organized, reliable and self-motivated. Physical abilities include lifting up to 50 pounds, walking/hiking nature trails with students and running outdoor activities in inclement weather. Screening processes include a DMV records check and fingerprinting/background check.
Work site, term and compensation: The assistantship will be based in Roseville. Education events will require travel throughout Placer, Sacramento and neighboring counties. Some events will take place on weekends. A CWA vehicle is used for travel to and from programs. The position is part time 30-35 hours/week from September 2018 to May 2019 with compensation of $11 per hour.
