We have an immediate need for a Staff Botanist/Restoration Ecologist with overall experience in restoration, plant ecology, or botany.
Description and Desired Qualifications
Responsible for technical direction and resource management support to meet client, project, and office objectives. Serve as a key team member managing, leading, and supporting habitat restoration projects, biological surveys, impacts analysis, permitting, and environmental compliance. Show extensive experience in preparing and implementing habitat restoration mitigation and monitoring plans, overseeing landscape crews, and monitoring for habitat restoration success. Must be able to identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout southern California. Familiarity with botanical data collection procedures (e.g., point/line intercept transects, quadrat sampling, CRAM); statistical design and analysis, interpretation, and document presentation; experience in USFWS/CDFW documentation and consultation support; wetland and/or riparian ecology and hydrology; soil science; and/or plant taxonomy.

Must demonstrate strong technical skills and expertise in restoration, plant ecology, or botany. Demonstrate initiative, independent thinking, good problem-solving skills, excellent field skills, and educational background in plant biology. Possess strong leadership skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, and exemplary work habits, especially related to safety, common sense, punctuality, and adaptability. Demonstrate excellent organization and communication skills and experience managing multiple staff on projects. Demonstrate strong relationships with clients and confidence in consulting with contractors, agencies, and regulators. Demonstrate strong and accurate writing skills, including experience writing habitat restoration plans. Demonstrates experience in conducting surveys and monitoring for mitigation success criteria. Demonstrate a commitment to safety and promote safe behavior. Provide positive and enthusiastic leadership/mentoring for younger staff.
Education and Experience
Minimum BS, BA required. Approximately 3-7 years of experience in technical disciplines with at least 3 years local experience and 2 years of demonstrated ability to perform in technical lead role. Professional membership participation preferred. Must have knowledge and experience with state and federal ESA and MBTA. Must have experience in preparing and reviewing habitat restoration plans and specifications for compliance with approved mitigation requirements and resource agency permits.
The position is full-time with benefits. This work will be done in the office with field visits, as needed, to manage projects.
