The City of Minneapolis Coordinator's Office of Sustainability is hiring a part-time (up to 29 hours per week), temporary Sustainability Program Aide who will focus on climate change, energy, and other sustainability topics. The Sustainability Program Aide will assist with planning, development and implementation of events, activities, policies, research, engagement and communications for the City of Minneapolis sustainability initiatives. The work is both independent and collaborative in nature. The position will last for at least six but no more than 12 months. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support planning, scheduling, coordinating and implementing program activities and events
  • Assist with development and drafting of meeting materials and minutes
  • Maintain and draft updates for the Sustainability websites
  • Draft quarterly e-newsletters
  • Support social media and other program communications
  • Assist with primary and secondary research, including  drafting surveys and analyzing collected data, analysis of potential policies, metrics and other related data for Sustainability programs
  • Prepare and make presentations for the program
  • Support community outreach, engagement and communication with program partners
  • Provide staff support for clerical services for the program
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions
Office setting and regular attendance of meetings and events in the community, occasionally outside of traditional office hours. Availability for occasional nights and weekends, including monthly weeknight advisory committee meetings is necessary.

Required Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or an equivalent
Experience: Two year experience performing duties similar to those described above. May use advanced education, volunteer positions, previous internships and school projects as equivalency for professional work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with climate change, urban sustainability and/or environmental justice issues
  • Interest in policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias.
  • Experience considering the impacts of the work on multiple communities, including communities of color, in technical analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
