We are currently recruiting for a talented and enthusiastic Sustainability or Carbon Consultant to join our well-established and experienced Business Sustainability team. The team works across a range of businesses and infrastructure projects to translate the sustainability agenda into relevant issues and integrate into day to day systems and decision making. Projects range from helping to define and set strategy, setting baselines and planning for action, measuring impact and reporting performance and progress. The successful candidate could be based in any one of 3 locations, Bristol, Basingstoke or Edinburgh and will have a particular focus on supporting delivery of carbon and climate assessments of infrastructure projects as part of EIA activities.

As a Sustainability Consultant your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high quality work within agreed time, budget and quality frameworks.

  • Providing technical assistance and desk based support to consultants in carbon footprinting and management projects including for environmental impact assessment projects;

  • Providing general support on wider sustainability and resource efficiency projects conducted by the Business Sustainability team to include desk based research, qualitative and quantitative assessment;

  • Supporting business development activities, including building a strong network of potential clients, participating in meetings with prospective clients and proposal development.

  • Engaging in direct contact with clients and build and maintain effective relationships.

  • Writing and developing proposals and bids for new work.

  • Ensuring technical, quality and financial aspects of projects are well managed to deliver effective solutions and ensure client satisfaction

  • Acting as Project Manager for a range of carbon and wider sustainability related projects, including, dependent on skill base, carbon reduction and accounting, supply chain management, product stewardship, climate change risks, resource efficiency and circular economy.

  • Supporting marketing and brand development through raising awareness of capabilities both externally and internally to support key clients and colleagues, e.g. presentations, articles and seminars.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ideally previous consultancy experience although we will consider applications from candidates with industry/corporate backgrounds.

  • Experience of designing and delivering consultancy projects and services in technical area.

  • Some experience in developing and implementating business development.;

Preferred Qualifications

For this role, you will be educated to MSc level or equivalent in Sustainability, Carbon, or Energy (or similar) and will have a strong undergraduate degree in a science or engineering based subject, you will also have the following:

  • Science based BSc essential

  • Sustainability/carbon/energy MSc desirable

  • Strong research and report writing (including web based research);

  • Strong carbon footprinting understanding and knowledge including key accounting mechanisms, data sources;

  • Understanding of the requirements for assessing climate in EIA

  • Strong scientific and numeracy skills;

  • Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;

  • Excellent verbal and written communications

  • Excellent inter-personal communication and relationship development;

  • Excellent written and verbal skills (in English); fluency in other languages an advantage;

  • Strong quality and time management;

  • Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.
