Job Description

Are you interested in current and emerging environmental policy and compliance issues? Do you want to apply your education and experience to help state and federal government agencies improve the way they develop and implement environmental regulations, policies, and programs?  Our Regulatory, Economics, Environmental & Energy Services (R3E) line of business has over 30 years of experience supporting the design, implementation, and improvement of public and private sector programs and is seeking an Environmental Policy and Compliance Scientist to join them. 

Ideal candidates will combine strong quantitative analysis skills necessary for supporting environmental regulatory analysis and program evaluation, with equally strong research, policy analysis, and writing skills to contribute to technical documents. Our dynamic work environment involves working on multiple projects simultaneously, supporting a wide range of clients at all levels of government and industries, and providing a wide range of support services. You will be responsible for supporting ICF senior managers in winning, planning, and executing projects. The majority of this position will be focused on environmental, transportation, Brownfields, and energy projects.

This position will be based in Fairfax, VA and may require on-site assignments at client locations in the greater Washington DC area.

What you’ll do:

  • Quantitative and qualitative problem-solving, and data collection and analysis.

  • Technical writing.

  • Reviewing literature and performing research.

  • Providing broad environmental and transportation program support at client sites.

  • Interacting directly with clients.

  • Preparing presentations, reports, memoranda, and other communication materials.

  • Working with teams to prepare high-quality materials to support clients.

  • Managing junior staff and reporting to senior managers.

What you’ll need: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or other Earth Sciences, Environmental Management, Engineering, Public Policy, Government Administration, or related subjects.

  • 8-10 years of experience in environmental compliance, environmental program management, and environmental impact assessment.

  • Strong regulatory knowledge of federal and state environmental and transportation laws and regulations.

  • Cumulative and major GPA of at least 3.2 or higher.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Experience supporting technically-oriented projects, including conducting quantitative analysis.

  • Willingness to travel, including working on-site at client locations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead client interactions.

  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and seek input when needed.
