Job Description
The Palmdale environmental engineer develops strategies and directs the integration of the Palmdale Environmental Management System (EMS), site environmental processes and programs.  Develop audit protocols and conducts compliance reviews for hazardous waste, air pollution control, spill prevention, and drinking water programs. Evaluates facility construction projects for to minimize environmental risk and recommends best practices to contractors. May provides environmental support to Boeing operations in the local area.  The ideal candidate will have the following job duties:

  • Act as the primary interface to the facilities organization to ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Manage environmental data with the ability to dive deep and create reportable program metrics;
  • Generate and approve state of California and EPA regulatory reports, and permit applications;
  • Oversee Air Force funded environmental projects for Boeing Palmdale operated facilities;
  • Utilize communication skills to facilitate and lead cross functional meetings; and easily communicates with  the Palmdale leadership team;
  • Lead the Palmdale ISO 14001 Support Team; assume the role of the Environmental Management Representative;
  • Review and approve the design, selection, installation and operation of pollution control equipment, waste systems and new on-site chemicals; 
  • Manage environmental compliance requirements and identifies risks to ensure regulatory compliance.

Work Authorization:This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. This position requires membership in SPEEA (Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace), a professional engineering union. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong oral presentation skills;
  • Ability to manage the Palmdale regulatory compliance calendar;
  • Ensure regulatory tasks are completed per schedule;
  • Ability to codify regulatory requirements into written procedures or desk instructions;
  • Interface with site programs and organizations;
  • Understanding of California regulatory requirements, EPA requirements and acquire California Department of Health water distribution operator certification and treatment operator certification;
  • Proficient in Microsoft business software.

Education / Typical Experience:Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
