Job Description

Role Summary:

The Senior Environmental Expert has deep knowledge of Environmental laws & regulations applicable to GE's fixed facilities & service operations. The role provides technical support & leadership necessary to drive compliance, meet customer requirements & achieve regional excellence by working to meet the needs of the GE Businesses and OneEHS. Also working with regulators and operational management, & takes a leading role in defining company standards, & shaping corporate environmental strategy.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates a broad spectrum of initiatives simultaneously 
  • Acts as a change agent and interacts cross-functionally to lead the development and implementation of GE environmental policies, standards and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Serves as a member of the region’s team of Environmental experts, supporting front line operations on all aspects of environmental compliance, sustainability and GE program implementation 
  • Serves as the region’s Environmental lead expert on waste management for applicable EU and international regulatory requirements and industry standards 
  • Supports and guides site and distributed workforce EHS managers on Environmental issues, specifically permitting and waste management 
  • Works with Business EHS teams to understand and advise on ISO certification strategy and supports operational execution 
  • Drives operational and cultural change, simplification and cost-out across the OneEHS function 
  • Understands and serves the needs of GE fixed and distributed locations 
  • Understands and serves the needs of GE businesses and OneEHS functions  
  • Drives compliance and the reduction of risk 
  • Provides operational assistance after a major EHS incident or event occurs 
  • Maintains a relationship with regional environmental regulatory bodies 
  • Coordinates regional best practice sharing 
  • Supports all other demands as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree in an EHS-related discipline or with extended studies in an EHS-related discipline, from an accredited college or university 
  • Expert knowledge on the European Waste Framework Directive and associated Regulations, with proven expertise in waste/hazardous waste management (including WEEE & Battery) 
  • Demonstrable competence (qualifications/training/experience) in European and international regulations concerning waste management (generation, treatment, transportation, and disposal). 
  • Must speak English fluently 
  • Minimum 7+ years overseeing the execution of EHS programs

Desired Characteristics:

  • Extensive experience with one or more GE businesses within the region 
  • Other language capability 
  • Deep knowledge of GE's EHS programs and systems 
  • Experience working in or across various GE subsidiaries or businesses 
  • Extensive experience working with industry Environmental organizations  
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements associated with Environmental issues related to waste management 
  • Experience with ISO certification programs, or other major Environmental programs 
  • Currently residing within the region 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with internal and external customers, and all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate and conduct presentations with large and small groups  
  • Serves as coach and mentor to other EHS professionals 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time 
  • Must be willing to work preferably out of UK, Germany, France, Italy. Other EU countries can be considered
