Job Description

The Microsoft Devices - Safety, Compliance and Sustainability Team has a new position based in Redmond, WA for an experienced Social and Environmental Accountability Program Manager. This position is responsible for developing a risk-based social and environmental accountability program for Microsoft’s hardware supply chain. This role provides a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many. 


  • Develop, implement and communicate supplier requirements, compliance and sustainability programs, operating controls and procedures with the intent to manage and reduce Microsoft’s related compliance risks and continuously improve upon and implement best practices
  • Lead risk assessment process and execution, and determine effective risk mitigation sourcing strategies in collaboration with Souring, Manufacturing and key internal stakeholders
  • Effectively manage programs end to end, including in-region projects, metrics and track related key performance indicators.
  • Develop and implement capability building programs for internal stakeholders, suppliers and other upstream partners
  • Research, implementation and communication of global regulations, standards, literature and guidance regarding responsible supply chain development
  • Develop, maintain and monitor raw material risk management system
  • Implement and manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships (with support of in-region team) to provide business insight on risk management, corrective and preventive actions
  • Respond to stakeholder inquiries, and develop effective internal and external communication materials
  • Provide guidance and support on compliance and sustainability transparency/reporting
  • Review policies and specifications for components and products to ensure they meet policies
  • Support supplier escalations, phase out and/or substitute plans
  • Successfully integrate within a team of experienced and highly motivated and talented experts


  • Bachelor's degree (prefer advanced degree with a good understanding of responsible supply chains; knowledge of IT and consumer electronics industries) 
  • 5+ years’ experience in social and environmental accountability, and/or responsible sourcing, with a track record of effectively managing a program in an empowered, and changing environment
  • Senior level stakeholder management experience, demonstrable experience developing partnerships and managing projects with different stakeholders
  • Substantial experience in effectively designing and implementing compliance, regulatory and sustainability end-to-end projects requiring cross-group collaboration and implied authority
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation of labor, social, environmental and health and safety risks associated with use of substances and materials in products
  • Ability to analyze Full Material Disclosures, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and other composition data in relation to a multi-disciplinary approach to resolving raw materials usage issues associated with products and make effective data driven decisions
  • Ability to design and deliver compliance and awareness capability building programs, and manage third party services
  • Track record of being an enthusiastic, creative, resourceful and effective team player with experience of leading and influencing internal and external resources to ensure successful outcomes
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, Mandarin &/or Spanish a plus
  • Knowledge of IT systems for product compliance and sustainability management Experience with XML, SQL, ArcGIS preferred
  • Power BI or comparable reporting/dashboard system experience preferred
  • Ability to travel 5-10%
