An Overview 
Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is seeking an experienced, self-motivated candidate to join our team as an Environmental Health Outreach Specialist. This position will investigate bite reports to prevent the spread of rabies within our community, manage mosquito complaints, and be responsible for championing outreach efforts within the City.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for promoting public health and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, residents, other Health Department staff, and the general public. 
The Opportunity – Examples of Work

  • Provides education and outreach to the community on environmental health issues.
  • Works with City partners to identify outreach opportunity across the agency.
  • Partners with the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department to deliver health education materials to parks and recreational venues throughout the city.
  • Creates content for dissemination via website and various City social media platforms.
  • Researches, creates and makes presentations
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, correspondence and other administrative tasks
  • Investigates bite reports, data entry, working with community partners to provide outreach and training opportunities.
  • Partners with the Alexandria Animal Welfare League to support rabies prevention through outreach activities.
  • Provides initial response to mosquito complaints; and,
  • Performs related work as required.
