Burns & McDonnell's Environmental Services Division currently has an opening in our Richmond office for a Senior Environmental Specialist to join our team. This position is a senior position in our growing environmental practice in the eastern U.S. Experience in environmental and stormwater permitting is required. The candidate will help develop new business outside of the utility industry, across multiple market sectors such as Federal, Telecom, Commercial Development, Oil & Gas, etc., and will bring contacts and existing successful business relationships to the table. The ability to leverage existing or past relationships into future work is essential to this position. Successful applicant will be responsible for participating in the strategic planning and business development efforts for our Environmental Division.
Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, transportation, and other similar markets is preferred. Experience with local and federal regulatory agencies in VA and NC is a requirement. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate and lead in a team setting. Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are required along with the willingness to travel overnight and work extended hours in a field setting. Strong analytical and problem solving skills preferred.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science or related degree from accredited program. B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred or environmental science and 10 years of experience with both environmental and stormwater permitting.
Minimum 10 years related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from team development and management, project and program management, professional environmental services, and business development. experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage in a dynamic team environment, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and work effectively and professionally with various audiences (i.e., public officials, agency representatives, property owners, businesses, client, construction contractors, etc.).
The successful candidate will have experience working with both private and public sector clients, with a strong track record of business development success in both sectors. They must also have significant experience in the areas of sustainability, air quality, environmental compliance, process design, energy management or related fields.
