BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Safety, Health and Environment Manager at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA, as part of its Ordnance Systems Inc. (OSI) business.

The SHE Manager will provide strategic direction and leadership to five (5) critical business support groups within OSI-Radford. These groups include Safety, Environmental, Security, Energy and Employee Wellness. These groups manage and have oversight for the various programs that: 
a) Ensure the safety of over ~1000 employees working in 24 hr/day, 7 day/week high-explosives manufacturing operation; 
b) Ensure the environmental protection of the RFAAP facility and its surrounding publics and maintain regulatory compliance with all of the major environmental legislation (CAA, CWA, RCRA-C, RCRA-D, TSCA, SARA, NEPA, others) which impact OSI-Radford operations; 
c) Ensure the security of all employees, OSI-Holston business assets, and the RFAAP DoD facility and assets; 
d) Ensure the integration of a comprehensive energy management system for the OSI - Radford; and, 
e) Ensure the integration of an OSI - Radford employee wellness program within the industrial occupational clinics at the facility. 

As evidenced by this listing, loss prevention, risk avoidance and mitigation, business continuity, environmental stewardship, energy management and conservation, and employee and public welfare are all key elements of this position. The SHE Manager will also interface with all regulatory agencies (State and Federal) as well as Department of Defense Headquarters (DoD HQ) contacts on regulatory issues on behalf of the business unit (OSI-Radford).

Typical Education & Experience 

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education 

o Ability to successfully interface with all regulatory agencies (State and Federal) as well as DoD HQ contacts on regulatory issues on behalf of the business unit.
o Excellent written and verbal communications skills (English).
o Leadership experience.o Substantial experience with occupational hazard identification, related risk assessment, and determination of proper controls.o Demonstrated ability to establish and foster an environment that encourages initiative, creative thinking, collaborative action, and process improvement.o Able to cultivate a positive SHE culture to achieve world class performance.

Preferred Skills and Education 

o Bachelors or Masters Degree in Safety or Environmental Sciences or related discipline
o Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
o Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
o Experience working in a chemical or explosives manufacturing environment
o Experience in a Safety, Health and Environment role in a manufacturing environment
o Process Safety Management experience
